Be Of Service

Step 12:  Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these steps, we tried to carry this message to others, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.

Al-Anon’s Twelfth Step is about service.  We strive to be of service to others through a variety of means, whether it is arriving early to set up chairs and make coffee, staying late to put away chairs and clean up, helping out at an Al-Anon function, or serving Al-Anon through the Al-Anon Information Service.

What Is Al-Anon Information Service?

Al Anon Information Services provide information about Al-Anon to the groups and to those who may wish to know more about us. Without AIS, there would be no local literature distribution, phone service, website, or other ways to share Al-Anon information with those who might need it.

We are currently in need of filling two positions:

Literature Center Volunteer – We need someone to fill the open slot on the 4th Thursday of every month from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  This person will be responsible for filling online orders, greeting customers who come to pick up their order at their scheduled appointment time, and to maintain safety guidelines instituted by Shelby County and/or the City of Memphis.

AIS Vice-President – Attends AIS/LDC Board meetings; helps other board members if needed; performs President’s duties in President’s absence; participates in planning and conducting AIS events.  Term begins 1/1/21 and ends 12/31/23.

About the Literature Center

Currently the Literature Center is closed.  We plan on opening it back up sometime in the next 30-45 days.

We will be instituting an online store.  All literature orders will be required to be purchased through the online store.  If the customer chooses to pick up their order at the LDC, they must make an appointment to do so.  The LDC hours will remain the same, with 15-minute increments for appointments.

Contact with the public will be limited to greeting the customer at the door, receiving their payment (if necessary), and handing them their order.

We will be maintaining the safety guidelines instituted by Shelby County and/or the City of Memphis.

This system will continue until we can open back up to full operations at the end of the pandemic.

We are located at:
